The Work's Story
Mosque Lamp Form, Blue-and-White Tile
The lamp is a symbol of intent beyond merely lighting a space. This object lives by the elegance of its form rather than its original function: the swelling body, slender neck and flaring mouth set up a rhythm with the blue-and-white ornament. The pattern was drawn one by one before firing; at high heat the colour turned to glass. Even alone on a shelf it sets the centre of a room.
