Handmade Woodcraft: Following a Tradition
Why is handmade woodwork special? Material, technique and the tradition of mastery.

Handmade woodcraft is a deep-rooted tradition that spans centuries.
Short answer: Hardwoods like walnut and boxwood grown in a humid climate have a tight grain, giving an ideal material for carving and inlay.
Material: Walnut, ebony (imported) and local boxwood are most common. Wood is seasoned for years to prevent cracking.
Technique: Carving (relief) and naht (inlay) are the two main methods. In naht, mother-of-pearl, bone or different woods are set into the base.
Arakiye carries this tradition with a contemporary storefront; every work is one of a kind and signed by the master.
